We are Gery and Leo, a Cuban-American and German couple. We both work remotely - Gery as a software engineer and Leo as a web developer. We've traveled to many places while working online, but when we came to Popoyo, we fell in love with it. Surfing brought us to this small beach town, but the internet was not good enough for us to keep up with our work. So, we decided to build Waves & Wifi, a place with stable wifi for people like us - digital nomads. For the past 6 months, we've been hosting remote workers and are loving it! Many of our guests have either extended their stay or come back again. Our goal is to create a community and a home for digital nomads. With just 8 rooms, it's easy to make close friends here. Guests often surf, work, cook and eat together together, making it a fun and connected place to live.

Our remote working community

There is always something going on here. At the onsite cafe, most guests end up drinking coffee or sharing meals together. During the week there are also various events on such as BBQs, pop-up dinners, markets, dance classes, and more.

Surf boat excursions and surf trips offer exciting surf adventures, while movie or game nights on the projector create a cozy, social vibe after the surf days. Many guests also enjoy chess playing, backgammon, or other board games making it a social and fun atmosphere.

Waves & Wifi is the first and only coworking space for digital nomads in Popoyo, where productivity meets paradise. Just 150 meters from the beach and surf, Waves & Wifi workspace offers breathtaking ocean views.

Designed by digital nomads for digital nomads, our space combines functionality with comfort, ensuring an optimal work environment. Access is included for Waves & Wifi guests. There are 4 private, soundproof phone booths, as well as comfy nooks and a communal office table.

The Surf near Popoyo, Nicaragua

Popoyo is a special place for people who love to surf, tucked away on the beautiful coast of Nicaragua. Popoyo is in the Tola region and suits all levels of surfers. The main attraction is called Popoyo break, for more intermediate to advanced surfers, a really good place to surf that works well at any tide. Just be careful when the tide is low because of the reef bottom.

Popoyo is also surrounded by other cool surf spots like La Lejana and Beginner Bay, so there are plenty of choices for everyone to find the perfect wave. There are fast beach breaks where you can get barrelled, or small rolling mushy waves for beginners as well as some very good longboard waves.

By far the best coliving experience I've ever had. It was my first time in Nicaragua so I didn't know what to expect when I first decided to come here because I knew Popoyo was in a pretty remote area, but everything just blew me away. Super beautiful rooms and common areas, walking distance to the best surf breaks, very stable internet (which was a must for my work calls), cafe on site with really good coffee and food, motos for rent to help you get around, what more could you ask for. Thanks to Gerry, Leo and all the staff for an amazing month in Nica, I'll definitely be back soon to score some more waves!

Finally a coworking space that fulfills its promise. I need 100% network uptime for work calls throughout the day, and I’ve been burned too many times by Selina power cuts and let downs at other workspaces. This place has it figured out- you will not lose wifi, period. One of a kind in Central America. Not to mention it’s beautiful and perfectly located for scoring waves in Guasacate. I could spend months here- you will not find a better place!

3 years of traveling and working remotely I can say this is hands down the best co live I've stayed in. Wifi was great as promised. Initially we were concerned about the location being far from the point but we scored some great waves at the beach break right out front. Gery and Leo were excellent hosts. Gery helped us get settled into the surf scene and Leo makes potentially the best cheesecake in the world! Hopefully we'll be back soon!

Waves&Wifi is the place to be! Rooms are spacious, clean, and has got everything you need. Gery, Leo and their whole staff are amazing and definitely made my stay here very memorable! If you are looking to travel and work or simply just travel (and of course surf) and meet the best people, look no more and stay here! Their wifi is the best in town, beach is 5 steps away, and don't get me started with the most comfortable mattress and pillows I have slept on all of my travel. Overall a great place to focus, get active, eat good food (@ their very own Kooks Cafe), and socialize! Not a place to miss out on!

How to get here

The easiest way is to take a Taxi from Managua Airport to Calle Guasacate (Popoyo). Once you've booked, just send us a message, and we can set up transport for you. When you are here, the best way to get around is on a motorcycle or scooter so you can explore the area and surf breaks. Check out the Waves & Wheels Moto Rental. The closest “gas station” to Waves & Wifi is next to the cemetary at the Plaza Nahualapa at the big metal bridge – a blue house on your right side. (Directions)

Managua. Its about 2 hours away, we can organize a taxi for you.

Is Waves & Wifi pet friendly?

Strictly no pets, sorry.

Are children allowed?

Waves & Wifi is exclusively for adults aged 18 and over. Although, we love children we are unable to accommodate them. Thank you for your understanding.

How is the surf in Popoyo?

Popoyo is famous for its world class surf breaks. You an surf all year around – The rainy season from May to September brings consistent, sizable waves, while the windy season from November to April sees smaller yet enjoyable swells.

What are the visa requirements?

Most countries can receive a 90 day visa upon entry. Please not this includes all countries within the C4 region (El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras).

What are the opening hours of the Coworking Space?

The coworking space is open 24h for our guests. If you are not staying at Waves & Wifi you can purchase a daily, weekly or monthly membership and access the space via a code 24/7 as well.
